The Xbox One's controller underwent significant redesigns compared to its predecessor, the Xbox 360. The new body, D-pad, and triggers feature advanced directional haptic feedback capabilities. In contrast to the PowerPC-based architecture of the Xbox 360, the Xbox One marks a return to the x86 architecture used in the original Xbox. It is powered by an AMD Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) built around the x86-64 instruction set. As an eighth-generation console, the Xbox One primarily competed against Sony's PlayStation 4 and Nintendo's Wii U, later also facing competition from the Switch. Microsoft marketed the device as an "all-in-one entertainment system," which is reflected in its name, Xbox One. Notably, the Xbox One was the first Xbox game console to be released in China, specifically in the Shanghai Free-Trade Zone. It debuted in North America, parts of Europe, Australia, and South America in November 2013, followed by releases in Japan, China, and other European countries in September 2014. The Xbox One was announced in May 2013 as the successor to the Xbox 360 and the third console in the Xbox series. Developed by Microsoft, it is a home video game console designed for entertainment purposes.
